1. Extremely High Chemical Bond Strength and Minimal Free Electrons
Precision ceramics are primarily composed of atoms such as aluminum, oxygen, nitrogen, and silicon, bonded together by strong ionic or covalent bonds. These chemical bonds possess extremely high binding force, which firmly binds electrons around atomic nuclei, making it difficult for electrons to move freely. The essence of electric current lies in the directed movement of electric charges, and the number of free electrons (charge carriers) that can move freely inside precision ceramics is extremely scarce. As a result, they inherently exhibit excellent insulating capabilities and extremely high electrical resistivity.
2. Dense and Uniform Microstructure
Unlike traditional ceramics, which may have porous and non-uniform structures, precision ceramics undergo high-temperature sintering and precision processing, resulting in a dense, uniform internal structure with perfectly bonded crystal grains. This structure avoids defects such as pores and cracks, eliminating potential conductive paths. Consequently, electric current finds it harder to "find a path" through the material, thereby ensuring the reliability of its bulk insulation strength.
3. Outstanding Stability and Wide Band Gap Characteristic
Precision ceramics are typical wide band gap semiconductors or even insulators. The "band gap" refers to the energy required for electrons to transition from a bound state to a free state. Precision ceramics have an extremely wide band gap, meaning that even in extreme environments such as high temperature, high pressure, and high frequency, external energy is barely sufficient to excite enough free electrons. Their insulation performance remains stable and is not prone to breakdown. In contrast, ordinary materials may already fail under such circumstances.
In summary, precision ceramics are like a heavily guarded fortress: strong chemical bonds (solid city walls) trap electrons, the dense structure (seamless defense) blocks all loopholes, and the wide band gap characteristic (powerful guards) ensures reliability even in harsh environments. This makes them an indispensable high-end insulating material in fields such as electronics, electric power, and aerospace.
